Roger Federer missed chances in the first set which Wawrinka took with a new found confidence at 6-4. Then in typical Federer fashion he was up a break immediately in the second set and all looked to be right in the world… until Wawrinka won it right back. The misery for Federer fans continued as somehow he managed to take the set to a tie break. At the tie break however, Roger amped up his game at just the right moment and before Wawrinka could spell out own name, his Davis Cup buddy had taken the tie break. After that there was no looking back for FedEx. He cranked up his game a few notches while Wawrinka, shaken in confidence from losing that tie break, could only watch a repeat of the story that has unfolded amongst them 11 of the 12 times they had played before. Federer won the match 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-0 and rewrote ATP history yet again when he secured his #1 ranking for a record total of 300 weeks.
